Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has instructed the talk team members of both NC and CPN-UML to finalise the agreement between the two parties for government formation at the earliest and seek names of all the UML ministers to be incorporated in the NC-led Cabinet.
PM Koirala, who is also the President of NC, gave such instruction during a meeting of NC office-bearers at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar Monday morning, it is learnt.
The PM is said to be in no mood to expand his Cabinet, which has not assumed a full shape even two weeks after he got elected, in “installments”.
He told the meeting that he intends to give a full-shape to his Cabinet by today evening itself. He also stressed on the need to make final arrangements so as to administer the oath of office and secrecy to all the members of his cabinet from both the parties today.
The meeting also declined the proposal of CPN-UML to expand the Koirala-led Cabinet with two ministers each from NC and UML, insisting that there should be no further delay in giving full shape to the government.
The meeting also decided to confer four ministries to Sher Bahadur Deuba’s camp inside NC.
After late night talks on Sunday, the two largest parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML were able to chart the tentative shape of the new government and the portfolios the parties will head. Out of the 26 ministries, the two parties are likely to get 10 portfolios each. NC will take charge in Ministry of Defence, Finance, Communication, Cooperatives, Local Development and Education, among others. CPN-UML has laid claim on 10 ministries including Ministry of Home, Foreign Affairs, Energy, Health and General Administration. Smaller parties that have supported NC are also in line to head some ministries. The final allocation is expected to formalised within today. Nepalnews.com
