Former Prime Minister and senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the people of Kathmandu needs to become aware and active in order to make the rivers in the valley clean and pollution-free.
Participating in a clean-up campaign at the Rudramati River in the capital on Sunday, Nepal expressed confidence that the polluted and smelly rivers and streams flowing in the valley can be rejuvenated with the active participation of government agencies, various non-governmental organisations and local residents.
He further said that it is because the people living in Kathmandu are uncivilized that the rivers and streams including the overall environment remains dirty and polluted.
Similarly, Nepali Congress central member Gagan Thapa, who has been actively involved in conservation works, said that every citizens of the country should think that it is their responsibility to help the nationalcapital become a clean, green and healthy city and that they should stop trashing their wastes into the river.
Locals and people from various walks of life participated in the Rudramati River Clean Up Campaign, which entered its third week on Sunday.
